If you have not seen Paula's HearingExchange post, she has retracted her statement using the term, Deaf Militants.

Thank you, Paula. We all are learning from eachother!

Ann_C,

Aidan did NOT say that *you* called anyone a Deaf militant.

It is no secret that Deaf activists are often referred as Deaf militants by anti-ASL proponents. I have seen you referring the Deaf activists as ASL-only proponents. I remember, because I have responded to your comments in the past.

Now, this goes back to Aidan's question: "Are you saying that Calling us Deaf Militants is not bashing?"

I'm curious, because you said earlier, "Variety or diversity is a positive element that promotes independent thinking in the blogosphere."

So, calling Deaf activists Deaf Militants is considered as a positive element of diversity that promotes independent thinking in the blogosphere?

Hmm.

Rini,

I have many CI, Oral, Deaf friends and have no problem associating with them.

I understand what you are going through as I have been one like you.

The Deaf community accepted me because of my desire and I worked my way into the Deaf culture.

Rini, I am a very bi-cultural person and live two worlds. I enjoy being more in the Deaf culture because of my needs to be socialize with a human being that can interact fully.

To tell you the truth, you have to know ASL to understand ASL.

It is not a pride like oralist, it is more of a necessity to more of a normal life.

Gosh! It is hard to explain reality. You have to be it... to feel it.

Ann C.

Are you saying that those Oral Militants calling the whole Deaf community "Deaf Militants" just because of one deaf "abused" person's attitude is justifiable to be a positive statement?

Ann C., you need to be de-colonialized!!!!!

I am honestly sick of both sides fighting over something so simple. One thing that is not made plain to me is that I don't _see_ the cause of calling each other names (militant?).

Are we simply trying to simplify people who are only oralists and ones who only stick with ASL? I have not seen the 'true colors' as AGBell have with their letters in this community and I have been reading over comments and blogs. Admittedly, I have not been watching the vlogs, but only because most are not captioned.

I am seriously learning ASL and to become culturally Deaf, but my main goal is to be a bi-bi person. All of this on DeafRead negative mentality is getting to me.

Right now, I am naive--only because I have not seen the 'true colors' besides name calling that warrants no reason for being negative.

Are the people, who are 'oralists' say they are actually accepting of others? Are there really people who refuse to watch vlogs that sticks with only speaking because they are not profiecent in signing yet (or if they are comfortable with speaking).

What I think, is that someone is trying to see between the lines and calling foul, calling someone a fake when that person said they are accepting of all diversity?

Please, don't disappoint me.

One thing, I forgot add:
By the way,
For individual people there can be both positive and negative by bloggers or vloggers.
For some individual people the effects of this might be positive or negative- a separate issue to whether they are positive or negative for society.

Like everyone aren't same like us rest of all peoples.
As long, I hope everyone willing listening their hearts and change mind properly respect bloggers/vloggers as diversity! Importance thing!

This is what DeafRead wanted all along, to start a cultural war, but we know DeafRead's position since Jared created a video supporting sign language, and Taylor made a comment about keeping your enemies closer...and this creates more viewership for DeafRead. It's ironic that the only way these oral militants can get through to us is through an ASL-sponsored site, since we have the ASL logo for DeafRead posted. This will be the demise of AGB however, since their ignorance will be exposed for every person to see.

Cathy,

Bashing is negative, never positive.

Variety or diversity is a positive element that promotes independent thinking in the blogosphere.

There's a difference between bashing and variety or diversity.
