Why these Oral Militants “Teasers” accepted in DeafRead.com?
Why are these Oral Militants reading, blogging, vlogging and being involved in DeafRead?
The genuine Deaf people are in DeafRead to learn from other bloggers and vloggers.
But these Oral Militants Teasers are not in DeafRead to be empowered or to learn anything from the Deaf community. They are just “party crashers”…invading someone’s turf to have a good time just for themselves.
A blogger called us a Deaf Militants just because one deaf “abused” person got upset with her and her “teasing” attitude to the Deaf community. What benefit does this lady have being in DeafRead? None! Then why she continue to blog her “teasing” or express her “subtle” aggorant supremacy attitude style of writing in DeafRead?
Oh, there is another Oral Militant “teaser”, a true colonialized hearing impaired guy that likes to demoralized the Deaf community by doing orally motor mouthing on Vlogging despite that he does have “minimal” sign language “fourth grade level” skills but nonetheless, he seems to enjoy doing it due to his possibility of his social problems as an oralist in the hearing world.
Should these Oral Militants enjoy their subtle bashing to the Deaf community in DeafRead?
Enough is Enough.

Yah! Finally someone is speaking out. Enough of this. If they were genuine and open in learning new things, then that would be fine.

I am not happy with DeafRead now.
It needs to improve.

I have nothing do with this. You have to accept deal with this, why you part of DeafRead first place?
If you don’t like it, (Magic word) Use remove “anonymous user” use your head!
Since, I’ve seen so many peoples whoever posted their statement leave the message. Their own pov but you disapproval their pov. How can you deal approach and confront them ?
Accept or Not accept? You making your choice part of DeafRead.com or prefer your privacy business as low profile which one do you preference?
I do not care anyone think who am I. Let them Judge you.. are you sensitive person and easily upset? I do not let anyone judge me.. and not worry about them. As long you think about yourself deserve it!
pov= Point of view

Me, too. I have no interest in reading blogs by non-ASL users.
Ann_C // February 8, 2008 at 9:45 am
Sadly, you’re also bashing- one blogger , and then another v/blogger. Do you want an homogenous view or a diverse view? Many DR readers want variety and diversity in their blogosphere.

Thank you so much.. *deep breath* Well written!
I feel very uncomfortable when people label us as negative way just because of one bad experience or situation. It is not right. I hope Paula reconsider about the title, “Deaf Militants.” on her post and recognize that we, Deaf people, do not deserve to be called militant just because of one person? What’s more, how did she know if this e mail was from Deaf person?
I am interested in all kinds of Deaf people as long as they respect ASL.

I am very tired of reading blogs and comments by people who more than likely are the poster children or behind the scenes PR people of AGBell. They are only trying to keep the money rolling in by trying to make Deaf people look like they are divided. The only people causing the problems are militant non-ASL users and non-culturally sensitive people trying stir the pot. It is obvious they do not want to open their minds and learn. Who wants to try to continue to educate a “closed mind”. It really is getting old.

Ann C,
Do DR readers want negative or positive variety and diversity in the blogosphere?
Something for you to think about it.
There are “positive” and “negative” bashing to promote results.
And it takes a negative person to enjoy negative attitude.
Capisce?

To all those commentors(except Ann C.)
thank you for your positive comments.
I know there are many more that support the idea of DeafRead to be an educational and empowerment aggregator but afraid to have their comments due to those “Oral Militants” commentors.
WE SHALL OVERCOME to those “oral militants” against the Deaf bilingual (oral, ci, cued, etc) Community.

Cathy,
Bashing is negative, never positive.
Variety or diversity is a positive element that promotes independent thinking in the blogosphere.
There’s a difference between bashing and variety or diversity.

This is what DeafRead wanted all along, to start a cultural war, but we know DeafRead’s position since Jared created a video supporting sign language, and Taylor made a comment about keeping your enemies closer…and this creates more viewership for DeafRead. It’s ironic that the only way these oral militants can get through to us is through an ASL-sponsored site, since we have the ASL logo for DeafRead posted. This will be the demise of AGB however, since their ignorance will be exposed for every person to see.

One thing, I forgot add:
By the way,
For individual people there can be both positive and negative by bloggers or vloggers.
For some individual people the effects of this might be positive or negative- a separate issue to whether they are positive or negative for society.
Like everyone aren’t same like us rest of all peoples.
As long, I hope everyone willing listening their hearts and change mind properly respect bloggers/vloggers as diversity! Importance thing!

I am honestly sick of both sides fighting over something so simple. One thing that is not made plain to me is that I don’t _see_ the cause of calling each other names (militant?).
Are we simply trying to simplify people who are only oralists and ones who only stick with ASL? I have not seen the ‘true colors’ as AGBell have with their letters in this community and I have been reading over comments and blogs. Admittedly, I have not been watching the vlogs, but only because most are not captioned.
I am seriously learning ASL and to become culturally Deaf, but my main goal is to be a bi-bi person. All of this on DeafRead negative mentality is getting to me.
Right now, I am naive–only because I have not seen the ‘true colors’ besides name calling that warrants no reason for being negative.
Are the people, who are ‘oralists’ say they are actually accepting of others? Are there really people who refuse to watch vlogs that sticks with only speaking because they are not profiecent in signing yet (or if they are comfortable with speaking).
What I think, is that someone is trying to see between the lines and calling foul, calling someone a fake when that person said they are accepting of all diversity?
Please, don’t disappoint me.

Ann C.
Are you saying that those Oral Militants calling the whole Deaf community “Deaf Militants” just because of one deaf “abused” person’s attitude is justifiable to be a positive statement?
Ann C., you need to be de-colonialized!!!!!

Ann_C // February 8, 2008 at 10:58 am
I’ve never called anyone a Deaf militant, Aidan.
And you, Cathy, are bashing.
AslDeaf // February 8, 2008 at 11:03 am
Rini,
I have many CI, Oral, Deaf friends and have no problem associating with them.
I understand what you are going through as I have been one like you.
The Deaf community accepted me because of my desire and I worked my way into the Deaf culture.
Rini, I am a very bi-cultural person and live two worlds. I enjoy being more in the Deaf culture because of my needs to be socialize with a human being that can interact fully.
To tell you the truth, you have to know ASL to understand ASL.
It is not a pride like oralist, it is more of a necessity to more of a normal life.
Gosh! It is hard to explain reality. You have to be it… to feel it.

Ann_C,
Aidan did NOT say that *you* called anyone a Deaf militant.
It is no secret that Deaf activists are often referred as Deaf militants by anti-ASL proponents. I have seen you referring the Deaf activists as ASL-only proponents. I remember, because I have responded to your comments in the past.
Now, this goes back to Aidan’s question: “Are you saying that Calling us Deaf Militants is not bashing?”
I’m curious, because you said earlier, “Variety or diversity is a positive element that promotes independent thinking in the blogosphere.”
So, calling Deaf activists Deaf Militants is considered as a positive element of diversity that promotes independent thinking in the blogosphere?
Hmm.

If you have not seen Paula’s HearingExchange post, she has retracted her statement using the term, Deaf Militants.
Thank you, Paula. We all are learning from eachother!
